The next morning Heather learned office conferences were impressive.
As the meeting broke up, Heather could see that all of Wycliffs associates were in awe of him.
Following the meeting, Heather walked back into her bosses office. She explained she was a singer and needed a lot of money to launch her
act, telling him she had a record for him to listen to. Wycliff told her he wanted to listen to her sing
live. Heather sang a few bars and Wycliff advised her to save her money. He told Heather she was too wholesome. Insulted and hurt, Heather left the office.
Steaming with resentment, Heather told her mother that evening she really wanted a singing career. In the nights that followed, Heather lost many hours sleep practicing her singing after work at Pat Murad's house. In the meantime, some of Wycliffs foreign clients made a big fuss over Heather at the office, calling her "beautiful" and a "Vestal Virgin", among other
things. But Heather was so groggy at work during the day this didn't phase her much and she also failed to notice Boss Wycliff's growing attraction to her.
